2008 - A great intercrosse year!
Another interesting intercrosse year has gone by, full of great memories.
However, by the looks of it, 2008 is going to be even better.
World Cup
World Cup is back on the stage after two years and this tournament, held in Kriens in Switzerland will be a very interesting one. Last time around, Italy surprised everyone by winning the silver medals thereby breaking the streak of finals between the combatants; Czech Republic and Canada.
France and Switzerland are two more underdogs which may very well make things very difficult for the "big two".
The women's tournament will be important in terms of continuity. As you know the last tournament in Hungary was cancelled due to the low number of participating nations and this year will be very important for the development of the sport.
World Games
As in 2007, the World Games will be held in a "new" country. Last year it was Germany and now it is time for Slovakia to host this great social event.
The interesting issue here will be to see if there is room for two international events during the same year. This year, the World Cup and the World Games are only one month apart.
Nevertheless, spreading the experience of hosting an international event like the World Games is very educational and really helps a upcoming nations to develop the sport nationally.
Then, of course, there is the Penguin Awards... :-)
